Healing the Angry Brain: How Understanding the Way Your Brain Works Can Help You Control Anger and Aggression by Ronald Potter-Efron

I also found the book helpful with anxiety as well, since both anger and anxiety usually go together.

is it geared toward those who are already too aggressive and need to stand down or for those who bottle it up?

Hi BR, I would say it is geared toward those who are already too aggressive and need to stand down. It is also helpful if you hold it in and eventually explode.

What was different about the book was the explanation of neurobiology. The book not only provided a thorough explanation of what causes anger, but also some effective techniques and behaviors for dealing with it.

I liked Marshall Rosenberg's "The surprising purpose of Anger" and also

Marcia Cannon "The Gift of Anger"

both focus on figuring out the unmet need - how to get in touch with what is underneath the anger in order to understand how to (or not to) react as needed for the situation

The renowned classic and New York Times bestseller

Anger is something we feel. It exists for a reason and always deserves our respect and attention. We all have a right to everything we feel—and certainly our anger is no exception.

"Anger is a signal and one worth listening to," writes Dr. Harriet Lerner in her renowned classic that has transformed the lives of millions of readers. While anger deserves our attention and respect, women still learn to silence our anger, to deny it entirely, or to vent it in a way that leaves us feeling helpless and powerless. In this engaging and eminently wise book, Dr. Lerner teaches both women and men to identify the true sources of anger and to use it as a powerful vehicle for creating lasting change.

For decades, this book has helped millions of readers learn how to turn their anger into a constructive force for reshaping their lives. With a new introduction by the author, The Dance of Anger is ready to lead the next generation.

A Manhattan Phonebook, when applied with the right amounts of adrenalin fueled rage, rips in half quite nicely.
