I have no friends to go with, as I had no social circle. I'm wanting to go forth into the world and have fun and travel to a few places.
I want some adventure, but I'm older at 57. I'm not afraid to go alone, but the planning is a bit daunting. I'm ready to explore and be free.
I really want to visit Italy and Greece, but would also love to see many other countries if I can afford to go.
The only trip I've been on is to Vegas and I had booked that trip before ex dip shit decided to have an affair and marry someone two weeks before I was leaving. I had to go on the trip to the exact same place he went with her, and that was not the vacation I planned. Fortunately for me I was in the same hotel to visit my mom who was there for a convention so I wasn't alone.
I think it's a good idea to be open to solo travel. I'm done with limits, and not having experiences I've always wanted to have.
I'm tired of Puerto Backyarda...time for some real travel.

Omg, Masa, that's so exciting! I'm so happy for you!
Muggle, do it. Do. It. You can take all the time you need to plan. I always look up 'X weeks itineraries for Y' online, to see what a place has to offer.
Then when I have a general sense of what cities/places I want to go to, I start looking for the best entry and exit place. Then the hotel/hostel search can begin.
The lonely planet books help me to get a sense of the country, what is the best time to visit etc. I'm going to Greece tomorrow and I've bought my Lonely Planet yesterday and I got sooo excited just reading it!

Have the best time Hedwig!!! I’m sure you will. I’ve booked with TUI (British travel agent) and you get two excursions with it and the opportunity to book more if I wish. So I have the freedom to do what I like but also the chance to join in with others and meet new people

That sounds like the right combination of scheduled excursions, optional excursions and free time, Masa! You're gonna have an amazing time. And the planning and reading up on the country and all the sights is half the fun!
Thank you, I will!

I have travel envy now. Stuck in my own neighbourhood due to COVID travel bans.
But,I actually took my very 1st trip alone last April 2019. I’m 50ish.
I chose a small boutique resort on the Great Barrier Reef, Queensland, Australia which didn’t accept children as guests. I love kids, mine are all grown up but I needed peace and quiet and adult company this time round.
I made a lovely friend at check in, we hit it off straight away. She too was on her own so we stuck together and did the holiday together. It was nice to have a conversation and dinner partner.
But if you are planning to go to Europe on your own, plan it well ahead and make sure you stay safe 🙏🏼

Hi, all-
I have been thinking the same thing about traveling solo! I’m very interested in reading the comments in this travel post! I am 54yo and single for the first time in 24 years. Well, soon-to-be-single, anyway. :-) Has anyone followed through on any of their trips?
