Doubtful for NetFlix. They create and purchase the content due to some of the other media creators removing access to their shows for their own channels. I think my end state will be rotating between netflix/amazon/peacock for a month or two at a time while binging on their content.

I miss the days of VHS tapes, Blockbuster and going to pick up a movie or two for the weekend. Now, if you don't subscribe to these things you miss out on shows and movies.

but I don’t miss renting a movie and having to rewind it first because it wasn’t reminded by the last renter.

Now we pay the 3 bucks for crappy streaming in 24 hours or 14-25 to be able to stream, in sometimes poor quality, whenever we want. With the rental places you get the movies you wanted. Netflix was great in the early days. Once everyone figured out there was money in that, they are all retaining their content and trying to sell access for 5-20 a month. Sorry. I'm not paying 10 companies that just to have access to all the great content.

I don’t have cable so I have several streaming services… Hulu, sling, Amazon prime, paramount, and Netflix. I get Netflix free with my cell phone service. I get my money’s worth in all the streaming services.

Not sure if it comes from the ps4 or what but we have Tubi. Free movies. Oldies most of the time. Not bad. It changes every day. The kids watched a movie and wanted to watch it again. Took a bit to find it but we did.

I like having hard copies though.

I have times when I want to binge say all the Harry Potter movies, or the Hobbit then Lord of the Rings. Or all the die hard ones. Pirates of the Caribbean. Or as I did the other night RDJ Sherlock Holmes, but sadly that's only two movies. Theres the Alien Movies and Predator movies and their crossovers.

I set up the TV with my Amazon Prime account.

Lots of good movies available. Of course some of the ones I WANT to see I have to pay for. Signs, Honey I Strunk the kids...

Does anyone know if I "buy" the movies if it's saved on my ps4 hard drive?

I wasn't much of a TV watcher until Covid hit, used to watch home improvement shows or cooking shows here and there.

Of course, with so much more time to do nothing, I've watched some great period pieces on Netflix and Amazon. Some of my favorites are:

The Durells in Corfu

Call the Midwife

All Creatures Great and Small

Poldark

Victoria

The Crown

Anne with an E

Sanditon

Atlantic Crossing

Outlander

Count of Castamar

The Chair

The Windermere Children

My Mother and Other Strangers

World on Fire

Downton Abbey

Carrie Ten Bloom

Just for fun:

Mad About You (Amazon/2019)

Emily in Paris

Schitts Creek

Virgin River

Firefly Lane

Sweet Magnolias

My Unorthodox Life

So many more documentaries and movies I've watched over the past 2+ years. Thank God, it kept my sanity during the lockdowns!

Roxanne with Steve Martin is pretty cute, and one of my favorite brain candy movies. Loosely based on Cyrano we Bergerac. Another funny one is Strange Brew with Bob and Doug MacKenzie, loosely based on Hamlet.

I just received an "invite for a trial of Apple Tv. I'm wondering how long the trial period usually runs, also what shows do they have?

My daughter and I have been binging Teen Wolf (the new series) this last week on spring break. We are up to season 5. I'm hoping to find a new series to binge on quickly. I love medical dramas, legal dramas, murder mysteries. comedies, diy's, stuff like that.

Are there any streaming services that would be good to agree to a trial, watch all that you want and then cancel?

On the topic of streaming services the only ones you really need are Netflix and Hulu. Hulu updates the day after with new episodes of anything on TV and pretty much any show is on there.

One mini-series that enjoyed and ended up purchasing for streaming was Tin Man. It's a different take on The Wizard of Oz.

I do YouTubeTv because I can get all of the networks that carry my team's football games, plus Worst Cooks in America and Bar Rescue.

A couple of goofy movies my boys and I enjoyed were Carpool and Bingo. It's fun stepping back and as a grandparent watching my oldest son share these with his boys.

Hulu doesn't do CBS, but it's pretty good - we're hooked on the Murdoch Mysteries, which are NOTHING like the books.

I signed up for some free trials for some services and then dropped the service. Then I got some nice offers - hulu for $0.99 for 12 months, MHz half price for 6 months, twice, one of the British services (Acorn?) for 0.99 for 3 or 6 months. My current plan is to sign up for a service, binge on what I want to watch, drop the service, and start it again if they make a good offer.

I really like MHz for European mysteries, all of which have subtitles. Captain Marleau is a real hoot. Spiral is intense. There's one show (I forget which one) - in one of the episodes, we heard Danish, Finnish, Swedish, Russian, Norwegian, and English. The Brunetti mysteries are crazy - it's a German show in German about Venice, but the only Italian is the scenery and 'Commissar Brunetti's' name. They keep close to the Donna Leon novels, so they're intense, too. Leon addresses some very tough issues - so tough that I won't even mention what they are.

On Netflix, do not miss Call My Agent or Frankie and Gracie. CMA is filled with people doing bad things without a care in the world ... their amorality is somehow very funny. Frankie and Gracie - Jane Fonda (straight woman) and Lily Tomlin (crazy person) are terrific to watch.

I think it's 90 days for the trial. If you like comedies then check out Ted Lasso. If you like Tom Hanks movies there is Greyhound. I couldn't get into the other shows they had.
