Personally I prefer screws over nails lol
All joking aside, who gets their nails done?
Who does their own?
Who does fake nails?
My girls love doing their nails. We have bottles and bottles of nail polish.
Dd has always bitten her nails, I mean down to nothing! Then when out with friends her friend did gel nails on her and she loved it.
For a while she wasn't biting them and when they grew out she was doing different nail polish colours, adding gems etc.
Dd started biting again and again had hardly any nail. She's been putting fake nails on but with little to no nail to glue them to they keep popping off.
Her and I have been taking a hair and nail vitamin with collagen. I have seen a huge improvement in my nails which break so easily.
Dd also saw improvement when she wasn't biting them.
Is there a specific glue I can get her to help the fake nails stay on? I've just got her the nail sets with the glue included.
I am frustrated with my nails because of very prominent ridges on them and that any nail polish makes my hands look so pale and sickly. I have a light purple that I love but my hands look so white when it's on. Ugh.
I have never been a nail girl or use makeup other than Mascara and eye liner so this is rather new to me.
Any tips or tricks?
TIA

I have thin nails that split and peel. I also used to bite them — it was just in the last 15 years or so I really stopped. It was how I handled low-grade anxiety. I take collagen, but cuticle oil has been a game changer for me. I used it a couple times a day (I keep a jar on my desk and one by the TV so I just apply whenever I see a jar). This has stopped the peeling and my nails are actually long. Like i had to file them shorter - so rare for me!
I do not polish them - if the polish peels it weakens them more on me. I *try** to watch out for my nails, but I rarely wear gloves. I can’t stand dish washing gloves or any gloves that don’t breath. If I did, that would surely help keep my nails healthier.
Gels are great for being strong and lasting a long time, but removing the gel polish can be very damaging, especially if they scrape the nail surface to remove. (Also gets expensive here fast— around here fills are pretty expensive).
As for color, I hear you. The colors I like best look crappy on me. You gotta actually go with colors that complement your complexion. And then you can use the other colors on your toes where who cares how it looks. It’s toes! Have fun there. (Actually just wear whatever colors you like - it’s polish.. It’s gone in 10 days. So what if it is not a perfect color?)
Has DD tried the pepper polish? You paint it on and it is spicy and burns when you bite it. Might help her break the habit.
I do get pedicures about once a month — just love the pampering and they really help with my nasty callouses. And it is fun to me.

I've never heard of that but I'll search for it now.
I hate gloves as well. I have short fingers and there's no gloves that actually fit.

Hmmmwhat colours go well with ghost fave splattered with freckles? Lmao.
I have never heard if pepper polish. My mom used stuff called bitter apple on my hands to stop me from biting. Dd has weird tastes. She would probably enjoy it if I could find it. She's not into hot stuff so maybe the pepper polish will work.
I've never had my nails done. I was thinking of having dd go for an early Christmas gift.

I am a nail biter, have been since a child. I have managed to stop several times, a couple of times for quite long periods of time. I used to have a job where my nails really needed to look good, for eg.
I did start going for manicures now and then. I remember I went and got a really purple polish (gel) the day before Prince died, and then everyone thought my nails were a tribute. They weren't. One time I had this really cool manicure, and my husband said my nails looked dung beetles. He wasn't wrong.
He gave me a gel lamp for Xmas, and I started buying gel polish and I became pretty good at doing them myself. That said, the first time ... I had no idea you were supposed to "rough" up your nails for the gel to adhere. I thought I did a pretty decent job, and off I went shopping. One store I went to was the Bulk Barn, where there are big bins of candy or snacks or baking supplies, etc. I got into the car, glanced at my nails and a couple of them were naked again! I was pretty horrified that the polish may have slipped off into one of the bins.
I've been biting terribly for the last year or so again. Like I'm not happy until I'm down to the knuckles. It's so stupid. I pull the skin off and tear corners out until they bleed, and it just looks awful.
The first no biting polish I bought didn't taste bad enough to make me stop. The 2nd one was a Sally Hansen product, I think. It did the trick to get me to start changing the habit (in the past) but you do have to re-apply a couple of times a day. It's easy, though. It's colourless so it's not like you have to pay attention to where you're putting it.

With dd wearing fake nails she isn't biting. She's at a friend's for a sleep over and text me that one nail broke off. I had told her to take the nail kit with her in case that happened but she forgot lol
Little M loves painting her nails. She has a huge bin of nail polish. She likes to practice so I let her do my fingers and toenails. She's even done her brothers. The boys don't mind lol.
My hands don't look good with nail polish. Short stubby fingers and so white. Ugh!
I'll look into the gel nails for dd. I think she would like that.

I get gel nails done about every two weeks. If I don’t, my cuticles at the base of the nail all go to hell. I tried powder dip which is supposed to be healthier, but after I’ve used powder for a while, my natural nails start to separate from the powder dip, then the nail peels off from underneath, leaving a weakened powder dip product. The place I go to offers Dazzle Dry which I’ve heard good things about. They may not last as long as gel, but they last longer than regular nail polish.
I’m almost at three weeks with my current gel manicure and am hoping to test negative for Covid in the next day or two so I can schedule an appointment this week.
What I’ve really become a slave to are my pedicures. I get the callous remover each time and the bottoms of my feet stay so much softer than any of the use-at-home products I’ve tried. And yea, in winter no one sees my toe polish, but damn my feet are soft and I know it.

I dont know if I could justify going to get my nails done, even if I was rolling in money. I don't splurge on myself at all.
I just bought new panties and I swear I havent done that in way to long lol. AND I only did that because I had lost so much weight things weren't fitting anymore.
I just took off all the purple nail polish I had left on my nails. You sure can tell which nails I use as screw drivers lol 😆
The nail polish doesn't last on hands that spend more time covered in dirt and playing with tools then anything lol
Took dd into town to pick out some new fake nail sets. Also got a few packages of glue. Since all the nail sets won't fit little M I got her new nail polish and sticker nails. They can be cut to size. She has really tiny fingers. Actually dd does as well. She usually spends a long time just trying to select which nails will fit. The incurving baby finger is super tiny.
Does anyone know what causes vertical ridges along the nail? I have it bad on my thumbs. I also jjst noticed now that thr nail polish is off that I have horizontal ridges as well.

You can Google about ridges in the fingernails online. It talks about sometimes it indicates a health issue, or aging, etc.
I will say that now that I have less money and don’t get my nails done any more, they are more healthy. I have hypothyroidism, so bad nails is part of that. But I do know that any kind of thing you put on your nails soaks into them and affects how healthy they are.
I’m not a very feminine person, I have never used make up, except at all of my weddings. 😳 but I always did like the idea of having fingernails that extended past the end of my fingertips. Because I was a little bit of a nailbiter as a child, but mostly very thin nails that would just peel off. Sometimes just buttoning a shirt would bend the nail back. But I do think my nails are less healthy as a result of getting them done for a while.
Please let me know if you find something that works nicely, but doesn’t damage your nails.

I have always had paper-thin fingernails. They peel and tear at the drop of a hat.
I used to do acrylic nails, but they made my fingernails even more damaged. Same with gel -- all of the filing was terrible for them.
A friend of mine sells those nail polish strips and I pretty much use those exclusively. Because I don't have to do all of the harsh filing, they don't seem to damage my nails. And because it's like a sticker, it doesn't take any talent for me to be able to apply them. I think because of the sticker quality, they've helped my nails grow more, too.
